When should you toss your old panties out for new ones?
How recently have you disposed of your old panties? If you have trouble remembering, continue reading!
Fret not, it can be easy for any of us to lose track of what’s going on in our panty drawer. Every morning, you choose your panties, put it on and move on with your day. We don’t think much about it, but they are definitely there.
Look closer and you will see some with a few holes, elastic stretched, some even with a stain or two hiding at the back of your drawer.
Why should we throw out old panties?
Over time, bacteria can build up in your panties, even if you wash them after every wear. Bacteria can easily cause skin irritations, yeast infections, and urinary tract infections. Despite there being no medical evidence that wearing old panties will directly lead to these conditions, replacing your panties on a regular basis makes sense in terms of comfort and lowering the likelihood of these problems arising.
However, a pair that no longer fits properly could lock in moisture, resulting in yeast build up and other related infections. Moreover, frayed seams could easily irritate your skin and cause rashes.
Feeling the icks now? Prepare to rummage through your drawer and throw out any guilty pairs.
Signs it’s time to throw those panties away
If you take exceptionally good care of your panties, they can be used for years. Not sure which pair needs to go? These are some clear signs that it’s time to toss them out for new ones!
1. They have holes
Your panties have reached their expiry date if you notice any holes or rips. This means that you have overused them and the cloth is past its prime.
2. They have lost elasticity
Stretched out panties will not provide enough support anymore and might not even fit. You probably can't recall when you purchased them because they are so stretched out. It's time to say goodbye!
3. They smell
It's time to throw away your underwear when the odour is too strong to remove, even after multiple washes. You don't want to wear these because they probably have accumulated bacteria.
4. They have unwashable stains
Stains can’t be avoided, but they can usually be removed with soap, stain remover or bleach. If you've tried everything and these stains still won't go away, it's time to discard them.
5. They are too tight
Given how frequently underwear is washed, shrinkage is to be expected. Your panties should be comfortable and supportive. You don't want to restrict your circulation, so don’t keep them any longer.
